The story so far…
Hi, I’m Laelene!
I’m a housing advocate, design graduate, qualified colour consultant and four‑time home renovator.
For over 20 years, I worked in marketing and customer engagement for brands like ING, ANZ, BT, Zurich and Acenda, learning how to cut through noise, understand people deeply and create solutions that support real human needs.
Along the way, I saw how profoundly a home — or the lack of one — shapes a person’s wellbeing, stability and choices. That realisation shifted my work toward housing: how we design it, how we finance it and how we make it accessible to everyday Australians.
Everyone deserves a home - and a place to plant a lemon tree.
What I stand for
Stable homes: People thrive when they have a secure base. Stability creates opportunity, confidence and long‑term wellbeing.
Human centered design: Natural light, airflow, layout and connection to nature aren’t luxuries — they’re essential for health. Good design starts with how people live.
Belonging and connection: Homes make community possible. The BBQs, the school drop‑offs, the neighbourly chats — these are the threads that hold neighbourhoods together.
Real pathways to ownership: Home ownership shouldn’t be out of reach for ordinary Australians. I explore models, policies and ideas that open the door rather than close it.
What I am working towards
I’m laying the groundwork for the advocacy I want to grow into, including:
learning how to support fairer pathways into home ownership
exploring simple, human‑centred ideas for better housing design
translating complex housing issues into everyday language
shining a light on the Missing Middle and community stability
connecting design choices with wellbeing.
